It's Wednesday and re-organising my sewing space has been my work in progress this week.
I have a small dedicated sewing room (I cannot call it a studio) but it is my little haven away from the world and away from the testosterone running rampant in my house. I have a wonderful husband and 2 gorgeous teenage boys (well at 15 and 18 they are men really) and a cheeky male dog that follows me everywhere so it is nice to have a 'girly' space to call my own. I have rearranged it a few times but I think this will be the final layout as it seems to work the best in the small space I have available.
I can just fit in a couple of desks - one for my main machine which is used for quilting and the second for my very old Bernina which I use for piecing. With a couple of bookshelves and a small cutting/ironing station my room is full but it is all that I need.
This is my very small stash. I have folded any yardage and it is on the top shelves on the right. Fat quarters are sorted by colour and are stored in the top 12 tubs on the left. Anything smaller has been cut up into usable sizes such as 2.5" squares etc. They are in the labeled tubs on the left. Strips and strings are in the tubs on the floor.
I feel so much more in control with everything organised. Now all have to do is decorate the room with some quilts on the wall, new curtains etc. Hopefully I will get that done in the coming months.
I did manage to do some sewing this week and attached the borders on my Easy Street (Bonnie Hunter mystery) quilt. I love the pattern but definitely do not love my colour choices so I will get this quilted and donate it to charity.
I am linking up with Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday Linky Party. I get so inspired looking at all of the wonderful things people from all over the world are working on.
Until next week.
Sue
I wish my sewing room looked like that!!! Mine looks like I dropped a bomb.
ReplyDeleteI finally got fed up with the chaos so made myself sort it out. I am so much happier now.
DeleteI have definite sewing room envy! That level of organization is what I am shooting for once all of the yucky construction is done and my space is no longer storage for the rest of the house.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sabrina. Living with construction is hard but just think about the end state - it will all be worth it. Good Luck
DeleteI think your colours work well on the Easy Street. Well done on the organising, it will make the quilting part even more enjoyable. When I first looked, I thought "those walls need some quilts, or a design wall" so I am glad you are onto that! Will turn it into a quilter's heaven!
ReplyDeleteFunnily, the only corner of the room that I didn't manage to get in a photo (the wall behind the door) has got a reasonable sized design wall so that is covered. You are right though, the rest of the walls are very blah with nothing on them!
DeleteGreat sewing space and I really like the quilt! I like the bright blocks!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim.
DeleteNice sewing cave for you! It has great quilt-room decorating potential, too. Do the doors swing open, even, instead of sliding? Great surfacing there for more design boards, etc.
ReplyDeleteToo bad your Easy Street colors don't speak to you. They are a nice combo, especially for a Halloween-season quilt! Somebody will LOVE it. :D
Great idea about the door surfaces. The doors do swing open so the surface is usable space and I wouldn't have thought of that so thank you. I can't wait to get to the fun part of decorating.
DeleteIs it OK if I actually LIKE your color choices in the Easy Street quilt?
ReplyDeletePerfectly ok! Since the border has gone on, I find the orange has toned down a bit so the quilt is growing on me.
DeleteI also like your Easy Street quilt pattern, I like the oranges/rust mixed with the blue inside the borders. Love your sewing room, I hope you blog about decorating it!
ReplyDeleteAppreciate your kind comments Tabatha. I definitely will blog about the decorating when I get to it. It could be another WIP that hangs around for a while though!
