It has been a week of making bee blocks and about a gazillion HST's!<br />
<br />
First up May Queen for the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild Liberty Bee chose teeny tiny churn dash blocks with beautiful shirting backgrounds.<br />
There are 16 churn dashes per block and each of them has 4 tiny 1.5 inch Half Square Triangles.<br />
That's a total of 128 HST's in all. I absolutely love how these blocks turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixXD_dS4pocVdR-F1Lm1t8P5W6rPjkFHzi11nETJwDEMJqfzXt72KP6yIXY4IBlSdcDOzUw_kicGgv3GDxq_WrphV57ak5WGSJgohYfx1dHysv0JwO57BF-soP6p7GruRS_sap5RV4rcEu/s1600/churndashes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="658" data-original-width="846" height="248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixXD_dS4pocVdR-F1Lm1t8P5W6rPjkFHzi11nETJwDEMJqfzXt72KP6yIXY4IBlSdcDOzUw_kicGgv3GDxq_WrphV57ak5WGSJgohYfx1dHysv0JwO57BF-soP6p7GruRS_sap5RV4rcEu/s320/churndashes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then our June Queen chose a block with lots of HST's as well. This time it was Pinwheels with a gorgeous periwinkle blue background. <br />
I used the Accuquilt die cutter for these and boy did that make the job a whole lot easier. The half square triangles all came out perfect size so no squaring up or trimming was required. Which was just as well as there are 72 of them in these blocks. The Liberty plays so nicely with that background don't you think?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKiH9EWFQSfNHAxxlNDKUDnKKbBe7Cja4xR4nnKLkoCE8e3s8lufDxAELGEOC5WxkXRNI5z4J762SoMD8GgRYrlqYl8ebyN1Td10tB0X1tzexylL9pyZ5_0nrb3oLCbXu7jFfBVlwS3Yru/s1600/pinwheels.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="747" data-original-width="1328" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKiH9EWFQSfNHAxxlNDKUDnKKbBe7Cja4xR4nnKLkoCE8e3s8lufDxAELGEOC5WxkXRNI5z4J762SoMD8GgRYrlqYl8ebyN1Td10tB0X1tzexylL9pyZ5_0nrb3oLCbXu7jFfBVlwS3Yru/s320/pinwheels.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And finally June Queen bee for The Bee Hive chose the <a href="http://www.blossomheartquilts.com/2015/05/the-bee-hive-ripples/" target="_blank">Ripples</a> block and again it has a ton of HST's but compared to the previous 2 blocks it was a breeze with only 48 of them! Kat's colour choices are gorgeous and l'm looking forward to seeing this quilt come together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4xLLtJdW02Dm7-zEGQUHVR5p2tP5E3CZKm5J6QrbBGgcq42bsYVag8uCCyNC8qHmX016sXC-zuBFvRnFUx4CbgM9nuv9INlH6H_esizCA6GYsySmgucs7aFSmk8-h8_2Pc2q5_UmdOSEm/s1600/June+Blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4xLLtJdW02Dm7-zEGQUHVR5p2tP5E3CZKm5J6QrbBGgcq42bsYVag8uCCyNC8qHmX016sXC-zuBFvRnFUx4CbgM9nuv9INlH6H_esizCA6GYsySmgucs7aFSmk8-h8_2Pc2q5_UmdOSEm/s320/June+Blocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And now that l'm ahead with my bee blocks l am hoping to get the quilting done on at least 2 of the 12 quilt tops I have patiently waiting for some love and attention.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

I am so excited to finally be making a start on the quilt for my mum. <br />
<br />
It took a while to get my head around the 'so out of my comfort zone' colours but they are growing on me and I have a plan (well sort of anyway!).<br />
<br />
I utilised the colouring sheets that came with the Girt By Sea pattern by <a href="http://modernmakersretreat.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Modern Makers Retreat</a> to do a few mock ups but when it came time to start the actual piecing I went a completely different way. I think my mum is speaking to me and guiding me so I'm running with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYAXlUjDgQ5fbr5db5mahktBu7RQFGLn1eWSHgFiZ_ixzwYM_2XbT40lw5kKyvNMw-43a_nGqA8gF_Io71Xoti047G3i4OdynVxU5l4rXA8_chJHG8HjrdCASv0L682bON3OExVM5MHNns/s1600/colouring.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYAXlUjDgQ5fbr5db5mahktBu7RQFGLn1eWSHgFiZ_ixzwYM_2XbT40lw5kKyvNMw-43a_nGqA8gF_Io71Xoti047G3i4OdynVxU5l4rXA8_chJHG8HjrdCASv0L682bON3OExVM5MHNns/s320/colouring.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am new to English Paper Piecing and I really, really, really wanted to enjoy it but sadly I don't think it is my thing. I follow so many people who love this technique and they all make it look so simple. And maybe it is, but for me it is definitely a work in progress!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGraoWfehnLlZUEqYaFfYgLR02t0JeC2_wl1-_q8FO0-XEwmCgZhidMJ8mECzJID6kaM8ZSC7qYc9WvmYkM6W5syBuI4ekgsl7dxyZ1AsJKbqY2X7nUN2Wgg05sSRWysBHSg8shkrR3AFX/s1600/epp1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGraoWfehnLlZUEqYaFfYgLR02t0JeC2_wl1-_q8FO0-XEwmCgZhidMJ8mECzJID6kaM8ZSC7qYc9WvmYkM6W5syBuI4ekgsl7dxyZ1AsJKbqY2X7nUN2Wgg05sSRWysBHSg8shkrR3AFX/s320/epp1.png" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
The middle of my centre star didn't line up very well but I don't have it in me to unpick and redo so I am embracing the imperfections and pushing on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4WKO-gNnO3p9SHDjQdjtm6l3TZ41Z2EaM3kBafgwJ3579o4H2rl6pSbzGV3smUoMN-wmdt02XtBoKz5rndIimryo4GB3IS0eKv9u0D3X_EKIkWq3Ro5Alvm-cvhCS2Qq8JrAA5Q8bYCla/s1600/epp2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4WKO-gNnO3p9SHDjQdjtm6l3TZ41Z2EaM3kBafgwJ3579o4H2rl6pSbzGV3smUoMN-wmdt02XtBoKz5rndIimryo4GB3IS0eKv9u0D3X_EKIkWq3Ro5Alvm-cvhCS2Qq8JrAA5Q8bYCla/s400/epp2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I still have a couple of rounds of EPP to go before the centre is finished and although l am getting a bit better at this technique I will be happy to get back to my machine for the next stage.<br />
<br />
If you are on Instagram (if you're not, you should be!) you can keep up with everyone's progress by following ModernMakersRetreat or the hashtags #girtbyseaquilt and #mmrgirtbysea. <br />
There are some absolutely amazing versions of the quilt being made by some extremely talented quilters. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

I needed another project like, well you know – you’ve been
there. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
I resisted the temptation to join in the Girt By Sea sew
along for a while but then I read something on the <a href="https://modernmakersretreat.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Modern Makers Retreat </a>blog that really resonated with me and from that
moment I was in. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Let me set the scene by
sharing a little history…....<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The person I most admire and the person l am most proud of
in this world is my mum. She went
through some very difficult times and when my dad walked out he left her with 3
small children and a mortgage on the house they had just purchased. At the time she was a stay at home mum but
instead of crumbling she found a job, worked her tail off, put herself through
night school and eventually qualified as an auditor and hospital administrator. Through shear hard work and perseverance she
managed to keep the house and raise 3 children with little assistance from my
father. Life wasn’t always a box of
chocolates but my sisters and I never went without. She was an incredible woman, never
judgemental and always supportive of the decisions my sisters and l made
(whether they were good or bad). She
showed us by example how to be strong, resilient women.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Now, how is this all relevant to the Girt By Sea sew along? Well sadly mum passed away early on in my
quilting journey so I never had the opportunity to make a quilt for her. In all honesty, it hasn’t really been
something l have dwelled on but when I read <a href="https://modernmakersretreat.wordpress.com/2017/04/05/theres-no-place-like-home/" target="_blank">this</a> Modern Makers Retreat post something
changed. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I can’t say why but my mum
popped into my head as I read the words “there’s no place like home.” Girt means to surround and at that moment I
felt my mums presence surrounding me and I knew that I had to make this quilt
for her.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
With the decision made it was time to settle on what colour
scheme to use. Normally I would revert
to my favourite scrappy ‘throw everything but the kitchen sink in’ kind of style
but I wanted this quilt to be different, it had to be done in mum colours. She loved autumn tones of browns, mustards
and burnt oranges – all colours I rarely use so it took me some time to settle
on a colour pallet. I wanted to honour
the autumn tones mum loved but needed to add a little punch. Plums and magenta were the answer.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
As much as l love the vibrancy of this pallet I must admit
that I am also terrified by it. It is so
far out of my comfort zone but I think that is quite fitting. My mum is proof personified that you can work
through adversary and succeed. Knowing
she is on this journey with me, guiding me, I am embracing the challenge and excited
to finally be making a quilt for her.</div>

For my reign as Queen for do good Stitches Cherish Circle I am going with one of my all time favourite techniques - string blocks. <br />
<br />
It's no secret I love scrappy and I absolutely love string blocks. They are fun, fast and you can use a ton of scraps.<br />
<br />
For this quilt, I am going to try and jazz up the string blocks using the Quick Curve Ruler. I have an image in my head so I hope it works out as I see it! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHh0TF-aryJz92QDVBreqGQY3ffSOzyeUcfFnhe7jzPi6TaJiVCMhS1SrLhvR9BYOpqTbw9P2ngif2aeCZJELQ2pQF6fiY3fovt5JP_gsULeYrj_77QxpscfGoKsGERQVUlq5MZefO9DIE/s1600/914.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHh0TF-aryJz92QDVBreqGQY3ffSOzyeUcfFnhe7jzPi6TaJiVCMhS1SrLhvR9BYOpqTbw9P2ngif2aeCZJELQ2pQF6fiY3fovt5JP_gsULeYrj_77QxpscfGoKsGERQVUlq5MZefO9DIE/s320/914.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhugHIp4bYXi5_VBoZ1SisVuqKmYRfBsWUA_Lsl9ytkwVl5v1K4gSFcml0FJnMG-6kFphrDqJ6yDK3cHtNxh_LRAZl3WS-rWvE6iN41MUAMS0zXlBpNweHybC1KV38c0ncZg3FAZm3GC0Wu/s1600/blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhugHIp4bYXi5_VBoZ1SisVuqKmYRfBsWUA_Lsl9ytkwVl5v1K4gSFcml0FJnMG-6kFphrDqJ6yDK3cHtNxh_LRAZl3WS-rWvE6iN41MUAMS0zXlBpNweHybC1KV38c0ncZg3FAZm3GC0Wu/s320/blocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
But my little worker bees don't panic, I will do all the curvy stuff. All I want from you are the string blocks.<br />
<br />
For those of you who may not have done string piecing before, there is a multitude of tutorials on the interweb but here is how I did mine for this project.<br />
<br />
<u>Requirements:</u><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Paper foundation cut into a 11" x 8" rectangle (I use general A4 copy paper or tracing paper for this purpose).</li>
<li>Fabric strips between 0.75" and 2" wide and about 9" long in a variety of bright colours and prints.</li>
<li>If you have an old needle I suggest you use it in your machine for this project as paper piecing will dull your needle.</li>
<li>Keep your stitch length at around 1-1.2. A small stitch length will help to perforate the paper making it easier to remove and will prevent the seams from unraveling when the blocks are trimmed.</li>
<li>Neutral thread.</li>
</ul>
<u>Instructions:</u><br />
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmZA_SJI98AkfVXCf7Y9XyTOSk4HY8FGWOCiUdIzbFNzDnAPtq1fBydKU1ogL9FFMx8p9hcBD25uZb81YIBd9XT2Xsby6edQEaN1W0OBODny34Kabbl7bE7QYluBPYS16pJcFZ9ZKlt5zO/s1600/paper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmZA_SJI98AkfVXCf7Y9XyTOSk4HY8FGWOCiUdIzbFNzDnAPtq1fBydKU1ogL9FFMx8p9hcBD25uZb81YIBd9XT2Xsby6edQEaN1W0OBODny34Kabbl7bE7QYluBPYS16pJcFZ9ZKlt5zO/s320/paper.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Draw a few reference lines across the short side of the paper which will be used as a guide to keep your strings straight.</div>

Starting somewhere in the middle place your first fabric strip right side up along one of the marked lines.</div>

<div>
Place a second fabric strip on top of the first right sides together aligning the raw edges.</div>
<div>
Sew 1/4" seam along the edge through all layers from top to bottom (no need for backstitching).</div>

Continue adding strips across the paper foundation until the paper is completely covered.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's that easy. You do not need to trim your blocks (I will do that when adding the curves) but it would be appreciated if the paper is removed please. If you used a short stitch length the paper should tear away fairly easily without putting too much stress on the seams.<br />

I need a total of 48 blocks so if you can manage 2 or even better 3 blocks that would be awesome. Terrible picture but this is where I am heading with this quilt. I am aiming for a fun, bright and happy quilt for a little boy to be donated to the Keep Safe Quilts program being set up by Jackie Gillies (a follow on from #quiltblockstohealtheviolence).</div>

It has been way to long since I have ventured into blogland. But seriously, does anyone read blogs anymore?<br />
<br />
I used to spend countless hours trolling through blogs every week but since I discovered Instagram that has all changed. I am totally hooked and although I know Instagram will never replace blogs, it's the instant gratification and ease of scrolling through feeds and liking photo's that is so addictive.<br />
<br />
Of course it is just that, instant gratification. It is not as easy to share detailed information or lots of photos of a project on Instagram (without totally driving your followers crazy) and it is easy to miss posts when you are following hundreds and hundreds of people on Instagram.<br />
<br />
I love blogs and I love blogging but there is no doubt it is far more time consuming.<br />
<br />
So once again (how many times have I made this pledge?) I am promising myself to try to blog on a more regular basis.<br />
<br />
It has been 4 months since my last post and in that time I have finished a few quilts, several mini quilts for swaps, countless bee blocks and blocks for do Good Stitches charities. Far too many things to share in one blog post so I will just share pictures of my latest finish.......introducing Organised Chaos<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWzJ4HS4poL4NmRbEZTzBppjTXYHKCRsEEisyVBLqE-w3xqOTMbNi1dToyDUzNtqGzr4MaFVkHQO878pIXBZQAFvHAtUgJ1aNwkrJUKKyIIw7RUUhueHIWwJY_AbbSEqyohD-uasQ98T0h/s1600/Organised+Chaos+Full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWzJ4HS4poL4NmRbEZTzBppjTXYHKCRsEEisyVBLqE-w3xqOTMbNi1dToyDUzNtqGzr4MaFVkHQO878pIXBZQAFvHAtUgJ1aNwkrJUKKyIIw7RUUhueHIWwJY_AbbSEqyohD-uasQ98T0h/s320/Organised+Chaos+Full.jpg" width="252" /></a></div>
<br />
In a never ending quest to tame my scraps and sew my stash I made some scrap vortex blocks following <a href="http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com.au/search?q=scrap+vortex" target="_blank">CrazyMomQuilts</a> tutorial. I want to make a whole quilt using these blocks but for now I decided to try my hand at a modern version with the scrappy blocks floating in a solid background.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8YGrzWr83nT_S_7KGdBI5TDXr3bWKHRob_v0oi5Vu3bknlhjOahP5W3pmiXDuZzee4zzSJRm_9EQhgbDT_8oGnZje84c24FCBXyCQ31ul7UFlVuq3d9IEf8TL4ayAu1AR9z5UtVzryZ5G/s1600/Organised+Chaos+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8YGrzWr83nT_S_7KGdBI5TDXr3bWKHRob_v0oi5Vu3bknlhjOahP5W3pmiXDuZzee4zzSJRm_9EQhgbDT_8oGnZje84c24FCBXyCQ31ul7UFlVuq3d9IEf8TL4ayAu1AR9z5UtVzryZ5G/s320/Organised+Chaos+1.jpg" width="163" /></a></div>
<br />
The plan was to do straight line quilting over the whole quilt but I quickly learned that quilting straight lines on a domestic machine is no easy feat so l scrapped that idea and went with free motion swirls in the background and used the straight lines in the scrappy section of the quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqKdzlTcocVmCtsBnvka1iKTVe9Etu_hBJBkfv6X8lhVobvsAr4_g4IMvRXSM0uECZSK3vU-MyOZDzBWUvsEjqCXD-pU1LQ4ZmZXKndRPUXK9H5mQt3KHuLtu1bi1_OpAc8nGdTSqA3n5V/s1600/Organised+Chaos+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqKdzlTcocVmCtsBnvka1iKTVe9Etu_hBJBkfv6X8lhVobvsAr4_g4IMvRXSM0uECZSK3vU-MyOZDzBWUvsEjqCXD-pU1LQ4ZmZXKndRPUXK9H5mQt3KHuLtu1bi1_OpAc8nGdTSqA3n5V/s320/Organised+Chaos+2.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
In keeping with the scrappy theme, I used orphan blocks for the backing. It was a bit like a jigsaw putting these blocks together but I love the effect and I love that it used up nearly all of the orphan and practice blocks I had gathering dust.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirWzgUSHrMIbcDhfXotLgxsHsisRbUynMXwvdZk3umL2bi8q2dxcfLt9hUluaD1YprxJGD9tmnsYBlYUF6wOISa-fmDvfT06V4HwhE0z3fN-nTTN5GORYoOc9czPQwGJmkKbF2_E111c5U/s1600/Organised+Chaos+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirWzgUSHrMIbcDhfXotLgxsHsisRbUynMXwvdZk3umL2bi8q2dxcfLt9hUluaD1YprxJGD9tmnsYBlYUF6wOISa-fmDvfT06V4HwhE0z3fN-nTTN5GORYoOc9czPQwGJmkKbF2_E111c5U/s320/Organised+Chaos+back.jpg" width="253" /></a></div>
<br />
Curiously I don't seem to have made a dint in the scrap baskets so I see many more scrap quilts in my immediate future.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

This is my 'Just Because" mini.<br />
<br />
I made it for no other reason than just because I felt like it. I had some left over HST's from another project and decided to use them up rather than hoard them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis6smdruPix6uW9FbrsfAY0KyRssv8HWJR0QvWrz8c2PyrU8ejVd_rI5DrRWyO1erbBFfoiJjdu4WstXIvJHVeZfLtr_P0et0-BnuhtVEu7gMnROPofPDtEZN-ahKFFCTjwTDXBT42rIgJ/s1600/Marmalde+Flower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis6smdruPix6uW9FbrsfAY0KyRssv8HWJR0QvWrz8c2PyrU8ejVd_rI5DrRWyO1erbBFfoiJjdu4WstXIvJHVeZfLtr_P0et0-BnuhtVEu7gMnROPofPDtEZN-ahKFFCTjwTDXBT42rIgJ/s320/Marmalde+Flower.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Continuing with the just because theme, I have decided to enter this little quilt in the mini quilt category of the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2015/05/15/spring-2015-bloggers-quilt-festival-mini-quilts/" target="_blank">Spring 2015 Blogger's Quilt Festival</a> hosted by <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/blog/" target="_blank">Amy's Creative Side</a> just because it's fun to share.<br />
<br />
Make sure you head on over to Amy's blog and vote for your favourite quilt in each of the categories. Voting runs from 22nd - 29th May and winners are announced on May 30th.<br />

I am still managing to sew only from my stash.<br />
<br />
I have just completed my scrappy trip along quilt with the help of my QCA Bee mates.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I love how this turned out and will definitely be making this pattern again in future.<br />
It is so easy but so effective and the blocks can be laid out in different formation to completely change the look of the finished quilt.<br />
<br />
I have gifted this quilt to a work colleague who has sadly been diagnosed with Cancer. Her prognosis is excellent as they have caught it very early so that at least is a positive.<br />

Life has just been too busy this past 6 weeks to allow time for blogging.<br />
<br />
A family crisis, full time work and significant birthdays for my kids (21 & 18) have taken priority and to top it off I had a fall breaking my arm which meant that I could not sew for several weeks (insert sad face!).<br />
<br />
Just before the accident I managed to put together my Log Cabin QAL quilt for SewMyStash2015.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDCvYGDZpNuLXblh3zP7_wlkTtIQXo8dqSzMCREQ5o-KISAJj74unl9v1wGa-iXA6D5poe5xD759ChlCYrQB1GqhZGgOt9KMMIKvl5Q0DdUUis9ePvh5R8oEkKGgiRdD_zarA_AruRj7tK/s1600/Starburst.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDCvYGDZpNuLXblh3zP7_wlkTtIQXo8dqSzMCREQ5o-KISAJj74unl9v1wGa-iXA6D5poe5xD759ChlCYrQB1GqhZGgOt9KMMIKvl5Q0DdUUis9ePvh5R8oEkKGgiRdD_zarA_AruRj7tK/s1600/Starburst.jpg" height="320" width="234" /></a></div>
<br />
And now that everything is back to normal I have been sewing like a woman possessed to catch up on bees and swaps.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have been true to my stash sewing commitment and so far this year I have managed to refrain from buying new fabrics. Yay me!!<br />
<br />
Well actually that is not entirely true. I did buy a meter of fabric to complete my Aragon bag (pattern by <a href="https://sewsweetness.com/shop" target="_blank">Sew Sweetness</a>) for the Aussie Bag Swap 2015. But as that was for a specific project it doesn't count!<br />
<br />
Here is the bag I made for my partner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEzpT1ZQnWXY-kwN2ImIR2I3JLDt1WVOpdkXEWLzYcLnozntDLJKpcXPvOdmSlNdTlZ4m-Wwiuk7ky_ldYquyh3nXztEjsYbK4tNQkKtFPs6QNIy0JNYgxRu2shB5IHOR1uCpBvgPyM5Ek/s1600/Aussie+Bag+Swap+2015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEzpT1ZQnWXY-kwN2ImIR2I3JLDt1WVOpdkXEWLzYcLnozntDLJKpcXPvOdmSlNdTlZ4m-Wwiuk7ky_ldYquyh3nXztEjsYbK4tNQkKtFPs6QNIy0JNYgxRu2shB5IHOR1uCpBvgPyM5Ek/s1600/Aussie+Bag+Swap+2015.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried to be true to her guidelines but as this was a secret swap I had to rely on Instagram and Facebook stalking to determine my partners likes. She has not received this as yet but I hope I she will love it.<br />
<br />
This is the very first 'real' bag I have made and although some parts were a bit tricky, on the whole it wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be.<br />
<br />
I made a little pouch from left over fabric and have filled that with a few goodies for my partner to enjoy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_bAoFVSRpm0fvs6QcTxuXPKaB56kinjIVSSghmYkPQ2AnAoa1ADrp5fmIFYyMSsdmCjtDVWzg2gK5IdB4StEnQyki3zNE5uZ_xbhJZna-LoOn-sOCLR18la2s4fr2CnDShOEa5BfVXIhj/s1600/Swap+Extra's.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_bAoFVSRpm0fvs6QcTxuXPKaB56kinjIVSSghmYkPQ2AnAoa1ADrp5fmIFYyMSsdmCjtDVWzg2gK5IdB4StEnQyki3zNE5uZ_xbhJZna-LoOn-sOCLR18la2s4fr2CnDShOEa5BfVXIhj/s1600/Swap+Extra's.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now that this project is finished it is time to start stalking another partner for another secret swap. This time it is the Aussie IG Mini Swap 2015. I know exactly what I want to make for my partner so all I have to do is start pulling fabrics and get it underway.<br />
<br />
Stay tuned.<br />

In an effort to improve my free motion quilting skills I am participating in the 2015 Free Motion Quilting Challenge hosted by <a href="http://quiltshopgal.com/2015-free-motion-quilting-challenge/" target="_blank">QuiltShopGal</a>.<br />
<br />
I followed along with the previous years challenges and learnt so much from the many incredibly talented quilters who kindly donated their time and expertise. When I saw that Darlene was running another challenge this year I jumped at the chance to get on board.<br />
<br />
This months expert is <a href="http://sewwrongsewright.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Molly Hanson</a> who has has featured in many magazine articles and has written the book Free Motion Quilting for Beginners.<br />
<br />
We were challenged to make a pillow using one of three options. I have gone for option 3 - filling a heart shape motif with feathers. I changed it up a bit and instead of filling a heart shaped motif with feathers, I have created a heart shape with 2 feathers converging (well that was what I was going for anyway!).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB9YdUNe7yF1G12mo7BxEm3_jqLsubRb5i2aNbmp5YaHYQEFFhfLeqsVKoob4cy_onH6jh4UIJMV-9cADHobpeRauS9Jl7YWpa7LmHULELst0P1IY7N1T4s-tZ-Kl6gLYvwmWAvyTDkP71/s1600/Feather+Heart+Front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB9YdUNe7yF1G12mo7BxEm3_jqLsubRb5i2aNbmp5YaHYQEFFhfLeqsVKoob4cy_onH6jh4UIJMV-9cADHobpeRauS9Jl7YWpa7LmHULELst0P1IY7N1T4s-tZ-Kl6gLYvwmWAvyTDkP71/s1600/Feather+Heart+Front.jpg" height="320" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
I was really pushed for time so instead of a pillow I made a mini mini. It is only 10" x 10" and the feathered heart was pretty quick to do. The double crosshatching on the other hand took F.O.R.E.V.E.R. There was a ton of threads to tie of and bury which almost made me throw the whole thing away but I made myself persevere.<br />
<br />
I tried to brighten it up by hyper quilting in orange but I am not sure that it had the effect I was going for. In fact I may even like the back better than the front!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnYG6NqKz_oXpLIQlR0CI57_oz43cF_09G7oUqA2h_Q2-QBfyMjLyDKumbMAGqUC_66p2aub667e2f6xheH1gEY_QtOwGf0x5ACBk1DnbzgDYR8YEPDewln2yH8_-c97akOnvKKGnCGSJJ/s1600/Feather+Heart+Back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnYG6NqKz_oXpLIQlR0CI57_oz43cF_09G7oUqA2h_Q2-QBfyMjLyDKumbMAGqUC_66p2aub667e2f6xheH1gEY_QtOwGf0x5ACBk1DnbzgDYR8YEPDewln2yH8_-c97akOnvKKGnCGSJJ/s1600/Feather+Heart+Back.jpg" height="320" width="314" /></a></div>
<br />
If I was to do it again, I wouldn't put the little swirly thing at the bottom of the heart. It looks a bit odd but once quilted I really, really didn't want to unpick so it stayed.<br />
<br />
Final thoughts - I love quilting feathers. I prefer free hand to structured feathers and I look forward to incorporating them more frequently into my quilting.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

Yep, that's my mantra for this year and to keep myself motivated and on track I am joining in the fun over at <a href="http://www.projectleasa.com/sewmystash2015-kickoff/" target="_blank">Project Leasa</a>.<br />
<br />
Leasa posted her thoughts about sewing from stash on Instagram and thought she might get a few followers to join with her in the challenge. As it turns out hundreds of like minded people have embraced the challenge and the SewMyStash2015 widget was born.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.projectleasa.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/IMG_0279-150x150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="IMG_0279.JPG" border="0" src="http://www.projectleasa.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/IMG_0279-150x150.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
So if you are ready to play along head on over to Leasa's blog for more information on the challenge and to link your projects. If you are on Instagram have a look at the hashtag #sewmystash2015 to see all sorts of wonderful awesomeness.<br />
<br />
The first project I am sewing from stash is scrappy log cabin blocks. I have cut up umpteen strips from scraps and have been happily sewing away between other projects. <br />
<br />
This is my progress so far.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj151zhqiKfi1CxfTICiQ-jTEqmE7ibOn7WdeLICZ6OCCWSbzOqNkV9F0b0S1gHbmJEKY_qxzB5GoEiIINYJGZ2qfQjrYa28TJ_-Wb2t37YeFvmFO0FB5pioHg2VJA49WSQei33AL0B4iOE/s1600/190115a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj151zhqiKfi1CxfTICiQ-jTEqmE7ibOn7WdeLICZ6OCCWSbzOqNkV9F0b0S1gHbmJEKY_qxzB5GoEiIINYJGZ2qfQjrYa28TJ_-Wb2t37YeFvmFO0FB5pioHg2VJA49WSQei33AL0B4iOE/s1600/190115a.jpg" height="250" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to play with scale and make blocks of various sizes. I'm not sure how to incorporate them into a quilt yet but I want the layout to be a bit random and abstract. So more smaller log cabin blocks and some low volume filler blocks are needed to fill in the spaces. Again if you are on Instagram check out #scrappylogcabinqal to see the amazing things other people are doing with their log cabin blocks.<br />
<br />
If you are not on Instagram, you should be! It is addictive and a huge time waster but oh so much fun and there is just so much inspiration, creativity and talent on hand.<br />
<br />
In amongst log cabin blocks I made a few design boards using the Bee in My Bonnet <a href="http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com.au/2011/07/mini-design-board-tutorial.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> by Lori Holt and I also whipped up a little pincushion thread catcher which I made up as I went along (after reading a few different online tutorials).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2prY3B3ZD-4FAcXarCGb6W9xkMPxL_qzKMFEQjA-k0zKBlzGwQlZf9tRguGblQnzbDzBmfiAdNv5tMi6kXqdYyL2UvRBxFJM2EZBy4wzIzHTLeVPsKXdRJNgldWOFZa12ALtIIFQnp4qH/s1600/1421659091154.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2prY3B3ZD-4FAcXarCGb6W9xkMPxL_qzKMFEQjA-k0zKBlzGwQlZf9tRguGblQnzbDzBmfiAdNv5tMi6kXqdYyL2UvRBxFJM2EZBy4wzIzHTLeVPsKXdRJNgldWOFZa12ALtIIFQnp4qH/s1600/1421659091154.jpg" height="320" width="292" /></a></div>
<br />
Both of these projects were quick but they are far from perfect (the glue gun and I had a few disagreements whilst making those design boards and there were a few curses muttered and unpicking required as I made the thread catcher). I am owning it - they are handmade after all and that sometimes means there will be imperfections.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

Hello and a very belated Happy New Year to you all.<br />
<br />
I deliberately refrained from posting earlier as I didn't want to get caught in the trap of listing my goals and resolutions for the year. It is always so depressing to look back and see what I didn't complete so my focus this year is to plod along and enjoy the process. No deadlines, no stress.<br />
<br />
But having said that, I do have 2 aims for the year.<br />
<br />
Firstly, l am going to limit my fabric purchases and sew from my stash as much as I can. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidfVz5sA_rLZ0TP02nzG15dvxZMgKCSFQk16KP7uVHZ3CcKpUKs0rLkE2IKFI3OSsySkOrG5uaY_UZ4579bnK2E09b2n7Yc84LJcT8A2wJaKL633Oah9tO4B5NLfbx2M3UH4XtAjG0NB5X/s1600/stash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidfVz5sA_rLZ0TP02nzG15dvxZMgKCSFQk16KP7uVHZ3CcKpUKs0rLkE2IKFI3OSsySkOrG5uaY_UZ4579bnK2E09b2n7Yc84LJcT8A2wJaKL633Oah9tO4B5NLfbx2M3UH4XtAjG0NB5X/s1600/stash.jpg" height="320" width="206" /></a></div>
<br />
My stash is modest compared to most and yet I still have oodles and doodles of fabric which I couldn't possible get through even if I pieced every day of the year. Quite a bit of my stash is older fabrics that I no longer gravitate towards but I have decided to use it or loose it. To that end I intend to concentrate on scrappy quilts which will be donated to local charities.<br />
<br />
Secondly, I have to get my flimsy's under control.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnq5LbgN2MRijOBUeaLPBw2hW6DAjp6E5SjkrZnH91eIFFgBbtl_0euerc6vv8BWpDor3Zp5iBy7Fvm0jGmMscbSeZ8Z5AvfcO1i535PZi21HaWvbnqJdhJywMAdsk_ogBk7AIzUOQ5LZR/s1600/flimsy's.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnq5LbgN2MRijOBUeaLPBw2hW6DAjp6E5SjkrZnH91eIFFgBbtl_0euerc6vv8BWpDor3Zp5iBy7Fvm0jGmMscbSeZ8Z5AvfcO1i535PZi21HaWvbnqJdhJywMAdsk_ogBk7AIzUOQ5LZR/s1600/flimsy's.jpg" height="320" width="218" /></a></div>
<br />
At last count I had 14 tops ready to be quilted, some of them have been in the pile for a very, very long time. I am talking in excess of 6 or 7 years in some cases! What the? Why am I accumulating them? So, this year I am going to try to get one of those flimsy's quilted each month. I think I said exactly the same thing last year but I am determined that this will be the year!<br />
<br />
So on to my first finish for 2015 (well almost finished, just the binding to go).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5JEMrF-VDpqfblJMr3DJi6Z0dCeJn1vYYNhlbnoBKMt-o2JY0h5zeXNjYWn6KdzXGAOArONfnJ8pcIm8Xb7OIy_XdQQ4gCfYzhT0dipG5V5h1N5mAE162OqR05VKT0D0Tg2Q4N8HnM5O9/s1600/whole.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5JEMrF-VDpqfblJMr3DJi6Z0dCeJn1vYYNhlbnoBKMt-o2JY0h5zeXNjYWn6KdzXGAOArONfnJ8pcIm8Xb7OIy_XdQQ4gCfYzhT0dipG5V5h1N5mAE162OqR05VKT0D0Tg2Q4N8HnM5O9/s1600/whole.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgLxOHufZXFansmKVGUPdNV7zAJJR8h6UMIguc5NgQ0j_aoDps5lJ1IvL6WzFbQP2BcbsGq_8ANDdd9QYorIiJqYlR2otPKoWwB9tVf8kgWLD7bkj9ob42rj9lhNgSj-6EpeIozuueOLlI/s1600/folded.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgLxOHufZXFansmKVGUPdNV7zAJJR8h6UMIguc5NgQ0j_aoDps5lJ1IvL6WzFbQP2BcbsGq_8ANDdd9QYorIiJqYlR2otPKoWwB9tVf8kgWLD7bkj9ob42rj9lhNgSj-6EpeIozuueOLlI/s1600/folded.jpg" height="192" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Made from easy peasy 9 patch blocks in pretty blues and greens, I love how refreshing this top is. Sometimes the simple things in life really are the best. Because the quilt is quite simple and linear I wanted to go to town with textural quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK7-WuWAChq0UAIw8hKfkEOfPvR-JHi4W1oLmJe4jyv1NGkNQ30mRUvWkRG9Df7-xPue2-W_aMIbnXJiLzpDDT8bHg031_jPXZQWe865eyxEavJVMkHmtolGpQO7V6Oi-Cmmogq4Y4PwLw/s1600/quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK7-WuWAChq0UAIw8hKfkEOfPvR-JHi4W1oLmJe4jyv1NGkNQ30mRUvWkRG9Df7-xPue2-W_aMIbnXJiLzpDDT8bHg031_jPXZQWe865eyxEavJVMkHmtolGpQO7V6Oi-Cmmogq4Y4PwLw/s1600/quilting.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I decided to quilt a flowering design from the book Free Motion Quilting by <a href="http://www.quiltingismytherapy.com/" target="_blank">Angela Walters</a>. Whilst the design is not particularly difficult to do, it is time consuming and uses a ton of thread. The texture is beautiful but in all honestly it probably isn't the ideal quilting design if you want a soft and cuddly quilt. Being so dense the quilt is reasonably stiff but I am hoping it will soften after a wash and tumble dry.<br />
<br />
Apart from finishing this quilt, I have completed a few bee blocks<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And so it continues.......<br />
<br />
My sewing time these days seems to be filled with bee blocks. I love, love, love bees and swaps but I am in so many that sometimes it becomes a bit overwhelming and time consuming so I have made the tough decision not to continue with some of them.<br />
<br />
I really need to leave a little time for starting and finishing projects of my own.<br />
<br />
This week I have made my final blocks for 3 bees.<br />

Now that these goodies are all on their way to their new homes, it is time for me to start thinking about Christmas sewing. With 7 nieces, 4 nephews, co-workers and friends to make for I had best start sewing.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

I am in quite a few bees and swaps which means I have lots of blocks laying around waiting to be made into quilts.<br />
<br />
This past weekend I managed to put 2 tops together ready for quilting.<br />
<br />
First is a simple nine patch quilt in pretty blues and greens.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixEOElKjQf35x36yPB2j0uZ9qZiObtCUzXf9lDS-QtUd0s_iUTdWRQlELW4nWQf8s_ajpn3FSKS9xwHOGFQEEv03o2Uc3h3ypWwonhlVMaWXM1CTkIy_wkF9XqTzVUBrPVVDkUzexdz7oB/s1600/cool+waters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixEOElKjQf35x36yPB2j0uZ9qZiObtCUzXf9lDS-QtUd0s_iUTdWRQlELW4nWQf8s_ajpn3FSKS9xwHOGFQEEv03o2Uc3h3ypWwonhlVMaWXM1CTkIy_wkF9XqTzVUBrPVVDkUzexdz7oB/s1600/cool+waters.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This is for one of my nieces who fell in love with this cushion I made for her last year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLMuAyHtJW5l68EmxjoHHwWKfwvpfyxJBqStTwP1P4araC5PABoAqgsty-xkmUXa48FrmCO80TTZ07qUCFXUQiLnzGREQr08rEmKQgphDx_zXc1_uSkoh8b0QOlJ4T7Se6XWDDQ3RU0hFD/s1600/Blue+Green+String+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLMuAyHtJW5l68EmxjoHHwWKfwvpfyxJBqStTwP1P4araC5PABoAqgsty-xkmUXa48FrmCO80TTZ07qUCFXUQiLnzGREQr08rEmKQgphDx_zXc1_uSkoh8b0QOlJ4T7Se6XWDDQ3RU0hFD/s1600/Blue+Green+String+1.jpg" height="312" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sometimes the simple things in life are often the best. I love the freshness and simplicity of this quilt and I think this will blend in nicely.<br />
<br />
Next I used half of my paper pieced star bee blocks to make this quilt for a co worker who has just had a baby boy 5 weeks premature. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglDiRPFkGRZ3LZDjADErVnBlk3S8Uh2T6rP4VyZxvuEBEH5_pxBH52JuM53mxHYHgA38Dew5jI_G_BwC561ajsXa4ZH4mI0ij3oSof7UQrzEhlhxBW4g3zC1tW-6T6LTRamFBr4y2tkILR/s1600/complete.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglDiRPFkGRZ3LZDjADErVnBlk3S8Uh2T6rP4VyZxvuEBEH5_pxBH52JuM53mxHYHgA38Dew5jI_G_BwC561ajsXa4ZH4mI0ij3oSof7UQrzEhlhxBW4g3zC1tW-6T6LTRamFBr4y2tkILR/s1600/complete.jpg" height="271" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am hoping to get this quilted in time for the baby to come home but l am stuck for inspiration. <br />
I thought about custom quilting each individual star, then I decided to do the background all the same and maybe highlight some of the features of each star but now I just don't know.<br />
Anyone have any ideas??<br />
<br />
I have 12 stars left over so I think I am going to make a few more so that I have enough for a quilt for my husband. This colourway was his suggestion and despite my initial reservations I love how they play together so I want to reward him for that! <br />
<br />
But it will have to wait. I have 9 flimsy's (not counting the above) that are patiently waiting to be turned into quilts and I am determined to get a least some of them completed before I start another project. Well that's the plan this week anyway.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

The last couple of months I have been a very busy little worker bee fulfilling requests of the queens for several bee hives I am part of.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have so many bee and swap obligations going on that I had to create a spreadsheet to keep track of them all!<br />
<br />
Sometimes I have very little time left for me sewing but I can't help it - I love bees and swaps. I enjoy the friendships and I enjoy challenging myself to make blocks I wouldn't normally consider making for myself and in some cases really challenge myself with blocks I have never seen or heard of before.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So in no particular order, here are the bee blocks I have managed to complete since August.<br />

Phew! <br />
<br />
This week I am trying to finish a mini quilt for an Instagram Mini swap and then I need to concentrate on completing a couple of quilts for Christmas gifts and another for a birthday in January.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

Super secret sewing not so secret anymore.<br />
<br />
I am happy to report that I have gifted 'Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend' to one of my gorgeous nieces so now I can finally share.<br />
<br />
This is a Elizabeth Hartman pattern and I just loved making it. It is no secret that I love scrappy piecing and the string diamonds were a great way to use up scraps as well as yardage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAiOYUt8K5tQhzuLtW5SdgOQ-DdFRPkHUZ3Wrn6jXpYa0Lf6m1I8KQWPZgGjNkg_9TG-IqcwlLMDxxgMg8va_3aMY-VeLCW3gnmvLe10gy5Mkgnkk2CIqE_9ii7CjJ5GOPrgI-_bGT2tE-/s1600/strings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAiOYUt8K5tQhzuLtW5SdgOQ-DdFRPkHUZ3Wrn6jXpYa0Lf6m1I8KQWPZgGjNkg_9TG-IqcwlLMDxxgMg8va_3aMY-VeLCW3gnmvLe10gy5Mkgnkk2CIqE_9ii7CjJ5GOPrgI-_bGT2tE-/s1600/strings.jpg" height="220" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I was surprised at how easily the whole quilt went together. The instructions and diagrams were clear and easy to follow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOhekhi7ZfCKydju0Ib0DcfuywuoYxYSpU-FBGQ28My9Swab8AAlvie5a_wDIp-TctxFiIgEZfBqEsWv1ur14bL1SM9LWD1ePU6BrZfBR2Wrczoa9bbuEZ9dV33_ROhYlgpBuJPioFdUv_/s1600/diamonds.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOhekhi7ZfCKydju0Ib0DcfuywuoYxYSpU-FBGQ28My9Swab8AAlvie5a_wDIp-TctxFiIgEZfBqEsWv1ur14bL1SM9LWD1ePU6BrZfBR2Wrczoa9bbuEZ9dV33_ROhYlgpBuJPioFdUv_/s1600/diamonds.jpg" height="139" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It took me a while to decide how I wanted to quilt it though. After much deliberation I decided to go with meandering feathers for the background. This was my favorite part of the whole quilt. I love the texture the feathers create and I think it softens all of the negative space.<br />
<br />

Overall I love the whole quilt and I an happy to report that me niece loved it too. She turned 12 years old and this quilt is a bit more grown up for her which is why it was well received.<br />

Yep, it's all Instagram's fault I haven't posted in a while.<br />
<br />
A couple of months back I met up with some ladies from a Facebook Group I am in and they all talked about Instagram and how great it was so I was convinced to set up an account. Let's just say that I have became a little bit obsessed with this whole new world of instant gratification. I have been following people, joining in swaps and challenges and completely ignoring my blog.<br />
<br />
But now that I have got the infatuation out of my system it's all systems go again.<br />
<br />
In August I joined in a Bonnie & Camille charm swap organised by the talented <a href="http://msmidge.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Ms Midge</a> which yielded 112 charms from across all of the B&C collections. Following on from the swap is the Bonnie & Camille Charm-A-Long.<br />
<br />
We were challenged to make a project using the charms from the swap for a chance to win some beautiful prizes.<br />
<br />
So without further ado, here is my entry:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhda4q901m5OhBMYcKNyBkuxjX5-zLOBKsfZzJFhCpuo_Hzc5lZhkiI8lnZc2N5Z5xgFcWr6NCwDCedOvMEuFklGlyTSO-XywEHTMRuvsK6jSOI5w31wX7r-galAPTKK5dxS_w5GE0HP2wC/s1600/Chair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhda4q901m5OhBMYcKNyBkuxjX5-zLOBKsfZzJFhCpuo_Hzc5lZhkiI8lnZc2N5Z5xgFcWr6NCwDCedOvMEuFklGlyTSO-XywEHTMRuvsK6jSOI5w31wX7r-galAPTKK5dxS_w5GE0HP2wC/s1600/Chair.jpg" height="320" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
I have wanted make a circle quilt for some time and I have many different circle projects on my list but I didn't feel any were suitable for this challenge. So I came up with my own design.<br />
I am calling this quilt 'River Walk'.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3NrGKuyw-p55qYYu2U6iVes-An7N-yEUdjNfIWR_f_l_WhdcySOWl8-Q-1mkwDnIlMeGYp-j8t0q3z8DN5FID0j_RSO2NJ7LTr1l7KrksKQnzZzd3XFc5N5-gAq5k7yV2oP-qQpEGFrix/s1600/Quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3NrGKuyw-p55qYYu2U6iVes-An7N-yEUdjNfIWR_f_l_WhdcySOWl8-Q-1mkwDnIlMeGYp-j8t0q3z8DN5FID0j_RSO2NJ7LTr1l7KrksKQnzZzd3XFc5N5-gAq5k7yV2oP-qQpEGFrix/s1600/Quilting.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
First I cut random sized circles from some of the charms and machine appliqued them to the background fabric using invisible thread. Tying off and buying threads for all of the circles was the hardest and most tedious part of the project. But once that was done it was time for some fmq fun.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I chose to quilt circles and the plan was to quilt them densely close to the applique and then gradually spread them out towards the edges of the quilt. I don't think I was quite as successful as I had pictured in my head but I can assure you I wasn't about to unpick and start again!<br />
<br />

<br />
I still have to wash and block the quilt but as usual I was cutting things pretty fine and only just managed to get it complete in time to post before the challenge deadline.<br />
One day I will be organised and allow plenty of time to complete projects so that I do not put myself under so much pressure.......hmmmm, one day.<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

It has been a mini week here.<br />
<br />
3 mini quilts and a couple of paper pieced blocks have kept me busy for most of my week.<br />
<br />
First up is a mini New York Beauty quilt for a birthday swap. This was originally supposed to be a cushion cover but after redrafting the pattern it turned out 24" instead of 12" finished! I still thought about making it a floor cushion but a few people in the swap suggested it would look better as a wall hanging.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQFajx_rs1dGqkAYRY-ZH_3iyatonqFZ_BxaJ5FZ5HnefFZAj3I63SbKztoHBN0WvhDYVxaLU9nQR5n2gKZl05akpCdT3PbU4wMAQAKjpff-uPK_9CyT8e34bFfxGEDyOzoV6_J1PIYlxq/s1600/NYB+Finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQFajx_rs1dGqkAYRY-ZH_3iyatonqFZ_BxaJ5FZ5HnefFZAj3I63SbKztoHBN0WvhDYVxaLU9nQR5n2gKZl05akpCdT3PbU4wMAQAKjpff-uPK_9CyT8e34bFfxGEDyOzoV6_J1PIYlxq/s1600/NYB+Finished.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Next up I used some of the bonus HST from my <a href="http://curlyquesue.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/pow-wow.html" target="_blank">Pow Wow</a> quilt to make a mini chevron quilt.<br />
You can never have too many chevrons I say! I love how this one turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-urJ9OWxZqagITFxgHYC18OOYpVoDKuZtA0__2G8PvzlL0hdw1fbyCT96zkq_YplPB2HyTB-L2-QYqVaCUA-qs-YW0DCKyL6FM4fOBVcaIeGS7VAxxU_27AVCdLqcyDzoLekTFzzbnogW/s1600/Marmalade+Chevron+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-urJ9OWxZqagITFxgHYC18OOYpVoDKuZtA0__2G8PvzlL0hdw1fbyCT96zkq_YplPB2HyTB-L2-QYqVaCUA-qs-YW0DCKyL6FM4fOBVcaIeGS7VAxxU_27AVCdLqcyDzoLekTFzzbnogW/s1600/Marmalade+Chevron+1.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFssAK84MMi9smD0zB0VlIPR3Gh2cN-p4dwPcik6y51cH09F6GqJsnJzyuhuSHv2zOl-mH8dLKAO4vOJGWdyNh_9wCRdJtbcE8c08c5lNZ0SVXSFUsktCO7qPvXuPgzqgoQ6YN0nVJXvxc/s1600/Marmalade+Chevron+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFssAK84MMi9smD0zB0VlIPR3Gh2cN-p4dwPcik6y51cH09F6GqJsnJzyuhuSHv2zOl-mH8dLKAO4vOJGWdyNh_9wCRdJtbcE8c08c5lNZ0SVXSFUsktCO7qPvXuPgzqgoQ6YN0nVJXvxc/s1600/Marmalade+Chevron+3.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
And on the spur of the moment I made this mini Nail Polish quilt which was a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. It took all of 1 hour to piece then another hour to sandwich and quilt. Super easy and super fast.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyGJPrFxBdbi4B57SQiInWz6uKRQYtLEnOpZlXWAXR3yqDcFh98hnn-cTEYMwa_lLoKFHEgar8pgdD3ghrik4A3FPU6kaUicQWgh_gkhjw524m2mis9XIEh5Tl7TmxYivrOVOeNQ3F0tG0/s1600/Nail+Polish+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyGJPrFxBdbi4B57SQiInWz6uKRQYtLEnOpZlXWAXR3yqDcFh98hnn-cTEYMwa_lLoKFHEgar8pgdD3ghrik4A3FPU6kaUicQWgh_gkhjw524m2mis9XIEh5Tl7TmxYivrOVOeNQ3F0tG0/s1600/Nail+Polish+Quilt.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
In between mini quilts I made 2 more paper pieced blocks. One for me and one for Queen Bee Kate in the QCA Star Bee.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpyPpuNr10xWTOBJ2mJBapmFRaO122w9kYg74sbDgbQjnESvJmPrquNGNwPlI7gWQbrDreZMq6rcabx23BdJ7KH_PILmBHEWcVww7eq8w0c1rhq1Ng939jx6Pi5z8rRjkbEd_9oVeRJEJv/s1600/Block+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpyPpuNr10xWTOBJ2mJBapmFRaO122w9kYg74sbDgbQjnESvJmPrquNGNwPlI7gWQbrDreZMq6rcabx23BdJ7KH_PILmBHEWcVww7eq8w0c1rhq1Ng939jx6Pi5z8rRjkbEd_9oVeRJEJv/s1600/Block+8.jpg" height="320" width="317" /></a></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrvHJxZxtFCqDnRa3cAuAJ1JmAOJpB4KutJBGLLiwOvR8vefaXMsgLFTQhNRZL9459rH0ZcFd4LJvOfmZ8AyI8jCUeIBcM7HBl53-9YfDzf-SGPZVMMY2h8gX6v9dzJ03EMLBHQhQ0aaCO/s1600/August+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrvHJxZxtFCqDnRa3cAuAJ1JmAOJpB4KutJBGLLiwOvR8vefaXMsgLFTQhNRZL9459rH0ZcFd4LJvOfmZ8AyI8jCUeIBcM7HBl53-9YfDzf-SGPZVMMY2h8gX6v9dzJ03EMLBHQhQ0aaCO/s1600/August+2014.jpg" height="306" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, I have absolutely positively got to stop myself from starting anything new until I have made some more progress on my super secret string quilt. Hopefully next week I will have more to report on that.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

This week I was supposed to be working on a secret project I started a while ago but I got sidetracked making a quilt using <a href="http://www.cluckclucksew.com/" target="_blank">Cluck Cluck Sew's</a> Pow Wow pattern.<br />
<br />
I have wanted to make this quilt for some time and last week whilst rearranging some fabric I looked at my hoard of Marmalade fabrics by Bonnie & Camille and right then on the spot I decided to use some of it. Pow Wow was the perfect project.<br />
<br />
The units went together very quickly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgorsQHNCuQhlYxzSFMSDPCviVIrMbL6UkpMPJZaCBc3d1ss8anw1r_YBbbfsFk2M0IjuKCcWrtelhvsLLz8gmv5_jOVWuhRRvXY2s0qPWQslK8txKn_-HH9gD1WeCWD0xxu9kUsvKuq2Y2/s1600/Flying+Geese+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgorsQHNCuQhlYxzSFMSDPCviVIrMbL6UkpMPJZaCBc3d1ss8anw1r_YBbbfsFk2M0IjuKCcWrtelhvsLLz8gmv5_jOVWuhRRvXY2s0qPWQslK8txKn_-HH9gD1WeCWD0xxu9kUsvKuq2Y2/s1600/Flying+Geese+1.jpg" height="299" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGrWgJDPQIvRdEh1Yr_9knBtosdpA9al8fwtkG4w63bN2tDcdI7psjVqucc8MDGG9fIEhO-f-8PruI7ZGfws9A74oG7z5O5urbbcA3d4qVV_tGEhcZ-pDcbUPYUiRROirQPeCJkayVEW6y/s1600/Base+Units+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGrWgJDPQIvRdEh1Yr_9knBtosdpA9al8fwtkG4w63bN2tDcdI7psjVqucc8MDGG9fIEhO-f-8PruI7ZGfws9A74oG7z5O5urbbcA3d4qVV_tGEhcZ-pDcbUPYUiRROirQPeCJkayVEW6y/s1600/Base+Units+1.jpg" height="320" width="259" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
And before I knew it I had a quilt top. It was super fast and I love the result.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4cO9KGV6NjqZ1Qzt032KWxXCUQWNqrihY8cPtzX23hJb06K2oGOh17qpTh37wtheHqdzsxeSBk9uRZcTtBxEfWGqM8aswRZvB6eaWMlz32TW2QrTMyxDJ_sJ4L2-6LeusYsbT_gc0kaUK/s1600/Before+Borders.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4cO9KGV6NjqZ1Qzt032KWxXCUQWNqrihY8cPtzX23hJb06K2oGOh17qpTh37wtheHqdzsxeSBk9uRZcTtBxEfWGqM8aswRZvB6eaWMlz32TW2QrTMyxDJ_sJ4L2-6LeusYsbT_gc0kaUK/s1600/Before+Borders.jpg" height="320" width="257" /></a></div>
<br />
I still have to put a small white border on and once I do the top will measure approx 68" x 55" which is a nice throw size but I am toying with adding a scrappy Marmalade border to increase the size. What do you think - leave it as is or add a border?<br />
<br />
This quilt yielded 240 bonus HST's. I have assembled half into a mini chevron quilt top. The other half will be used in a future project (another mini quilt).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKhCjCjSkwB1J2E5i7iol61Rl3ofj_AH6JqkHQMByApr4zWTfKQzk2R_dBo6tuY4BptMPDggj5I_B-7c2IDWfQrYMFyxJcONFRKS_AESOJ9g8Ho1vi5umfz7wvNo5zdM7l8JbPcXzIsLDy/s1600/Marmalade+Chevron.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKhCjCjSkwB1J2E5i7iol61Rl3ofj_AH6JqkHQMByApr4zWTfKQzk2R_dBo6tuY4BptMPDggj5I_B-7c2IDWfQrYMFyxJcONFRKS_AESOJ9g8Ho1vi5umfz7wvNo5zdM7l8JbPcXzIsLDy/s1600/Marmalade+Chevron.jpg" height="311" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
In other sewing news, I finished another paper pieced star to add to my collection.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo69ZhM3I6ThJnes2LACcL-81-X_olhIVA-7PIdFmAAtlw5I6XYOnLUZ8hK1-U9B6RrqGmc89ouln7YS1eyOvTRMC6G_J7Bl6wASGa_RMYdrrWb6CuMlb8aMpiFtVPy_RE-LFpMxCmwd_2/s1600/Star+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo69ZhM3I6ThJnes2LACcL-81-X_olhIVA-7PIdFmAAtlw5I6XYOnLUZ8hK1-U9B6RrqGmc89ouln7YS1eyOvTRMC6G_J7Bl6wASGa_RMYdrrWb6CuMlb8aMpiFtVPy_RE-LFpMxCmwd_2/s1600/Star+7.jpg" height="314" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm not loving this one but I think it will blend with the others so I will reserve my judgement.<br />
<br />
And finally, I completed one more block of my super secret project - here's just a little sneak peek.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbtFDacJqlNo6LxmaT9chZ8YGCULai8hvHJ9IiAOfqDUb0FCcm0uTJvYDKnsWEVh6-JzFIuNyUZ9bIXAwZHPonmMALyHBSkBYgnL3fQPFyYKkjEsXk-uNaBfKabdSg1dMYc08K2KUDsnSt/s1600/diamond+block+1a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbtFDacJqlNo6LxmaT9chZ8YGCULai8hvHJ9IiAOfqDUb0FCcm0uTJvYDKnsWEVh6-JzFIuNyUZ9bIXAwZHPonmMALyHBSkBYgnL3fQPFyYKkjEsXk-uNaBfKabdSg1dMYc08K2KUDsnSt/s1600/diamond+block+1a.jpg" height="320" width="115" /></a></div>
<br />
Until next time.<br />

I have spent the majority of my sewing time this week making a wall hanging for a friend's housewarming.<br />
<br />
It didn't start out as a wall hanging, that was a bit of an after thought. Initially I made some improv wonky houses as a test for a bee swap. <br />
<br />
Then I remembered I had a housewarming party to attend so I quickly utilised my test blocks and turned them into this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNmLCYx0-AZ0i1qY73hV0eNXYL1iuSWmRWHDTPkQrHeiVHB17zMMOyO16kLm5NhnX6QMNLS7j39OV0wIKf0ow6ymN1aH2ua2Il_Nz_frpV6NB5NA5BEOURKioCpNt4Zmau2i9faJVtaagi/s1600/Full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNmLCYx0-AZ0i1qY73hV0eNXYL1iuSWmRWHDTPkQrHeiVHB17zMMOyO16kLm5NhnX6QMNLS7j39OV0wIKf0ow6ymN1aH2ua2Il_Nz_frpV6NB5NA5BEOURKioCpNt4Zmau2i9faJVtaagi/s1600/Full.jpg" height="320" width="168" /></a></div>
<br />
It sort of grew as I went along. Once I had the houses made I decided I needed some trees, then I thought a few flowers might look pretty. Then I decided to add clouds and birds and butterflies etc. etc. I kept adding embellishments until I thought it looked finished.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Some free motion quilting finished it off nicely and I managed to finish the binding about 2 hours before I had to leave for the party!<br />
<br />
I loved the freedom of improv piecing and I am really happy with how it turned out but more importantly my girlfriend loved it so mission accomplished.<br />
<br />
Here are a couple of close ups of each house.<br />
<br />

Also this week I fulfilled my July bee obligations with these blocks.<br />

<br />
And I got my next project cut up and ready to start.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I am using some of my precious Bonnie & Camille Marmalade fabric. I decided to use it rather than hoard it!<br />
<br />
But the highlight of my week was my no. 2 son's Deb Ball so I will leave you with a picture of my baby all grown up and looking handsome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A sneak peek at my next project, another string quilt. Cant give too much away yet but I have made lots of string sets in black/white and hot pink.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNCJZr3ZadRGZz-p-8HPyNahUF36V8k6FHxPmkdUd0vF5GsGo3UxPErpPYmw8LNRH6jBa66eKs15MUbsA8a2DtjKCzNWdo7vj1vzkqBfm5zvdJsaDYka0ShJWZRkDufPVsFSBB4mVaJXgo/s1600/string+sets+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNCJZr3ZadRGZz-p-8HPyNahUF36V8k6FHxPmkdUd0vF5GsGo3UxPErpPYmw8LNRH6jBa66eKs15MUbsA8a2DtjKCzNWdo7vj1vzkqBfm5zvdJsaDYka0ShJWZRkDufPVsFSBB4mVaJXgo/s1600/string+sets+1.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
Which will be turned into diamond blocks like this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiucG0QI_y9dAiHyMJt733ejipIvUC1IJYVCh8XBJIzeGt6vbpVaM4-i7CH0-YVVkcEma9HQdaqEYd628zdCOew1jj5tJWPZNJZFfcqccpCuMNoBpXY5T-i3zQQSkc2hKtED7tOgYZOhfLF/s1600/diamond+block+1b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiucG0QI_y9dAiHyMJt733ejipIvUC1IJYVCh8XBJIzeGt6vbpVaM4-i7CH0-YVVkcEma9HQdaqEYd628zdCOew1jj5tJWPZNJZFfcqccpCuMNoBpXY5T-i3zQQSkc2hKtED7tOgYZOhfLF/s1600/diamond+block+1b.jpg" height="320" width="115" /></a></div>
<br />
I will share more on this on the coming weeks as the quilt top progresses.<br />
<br />
Apart from strings I have been working feverishly to catch up on my bee obligations for this month.<br />
<br />
I made 2 paper pieced stars using the same pattern. One for Queen Kelly in rainbow colours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9noVUqO9_0q44RzyCa4MnxfBHKJvsPUTvnbcLdEKGBPI18Z18PtkS9o0-JkmA3M6haP6TKkb7MmftX49vPzwo4Is7TCoc48RqZafO3VDLC0fatjZV8sKErumvTktNDK1GqmsKPtVXZWdV/s1600/June+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9noVUqO9_0q44RzyCa4MnxfBHKJvsPUTvnbcLdEKGBPI18Z18PtkS9o0-JkmA3M6haP6TKkb7MmftX49vPzwo4Is7TCoc48RqZafO3VDLC0fatjZV8sKErumvTktNDK1GqmsKPtVXZWdV/s1600/June+1.jpg" height="320" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
And one for me in my own colourway (green, grey and white).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTdQmIfdLUKZ6-s8QZ5fk3MpKwBb7ZPJg-SoOrjRVy7Aiy9uiY0twFP07NA49rBanhKkQ-pfqxP74tziQbzLgwNNHCxbex3HzxQfx9HpfXttsnF2UnRp7PGt2Itijo0zgM0O6b3J39ZMiC/s1600/Star+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTdQmIfdLUKZ6-s8QZ5fk3MpKwBb7ZPJg-SoOrjRVy7Aiy9uiY0twFP07NA49rBanhKkQ-pfqxP74tziQbzLgwNNHCxbex3HzxQfx9HpfXttsnF2UnRp7PGt2Itijo0zgM0O6b3J39ZMiC/s1600/Star+5.jpg" height="311" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And in another bee group Queen Rose requested black/red/white granny square blocks.</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLs8vYakXiYWDQ9soAvSn8lw0Ke6jelWl1X7UImIN_lJQ8Y8sOKsJulPKflvUbugm3qVJz_B8IMxNXrPoYtBF-4firRacMbEmNWA2bs6fvR67n0hgwfpqLUnTvSZiHpIJYl7spE_6RhvW8/s1600/JUne+a+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLs8vYakXiYWDQ9soAvSn8lw0Ke6jelWl1X7UImIN_lJQ8Y8sOKsJulPKflvUbugm3qVJz_B8IMxNXrPoYtBF-4firRacMbEmNWA2bs6fvR67n0hgwfpqLUnTvSZiHpIJYl7spE_6RhvW8/s1600/JUne+a+2014.jpg" height="172" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had to make these blocks twice. Thought I was clever and knew how to make Granny blocks. When I finished I discovered our queen wanted four rounds. Of course I made blocks with three rounds so had to start again. Note to self.....always, always, always read the instructions before starting a block!</div>
<div>
<br />
And finally, I finished Round 2 Supernova block. It was my partners turn to chose our inspiration colour this month and she chose green. I am so glad she did because I love green and have heaps of in in my stash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5LjORT155NhalFnrS6ZqmLbIp5WTxxt6XUadEHVES9obwI83mSDC8kC2WP4oDu1WlW2DZfw4KvgfrBxJeFaQvXkf6g_2iaLt9WaVKx840dIMNPIXayU6dgry9i7d8OQM31m7CVSI3NiC7/s1600/Block+2+-+green.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5LjORT155NhalFnrS6ZqmLbIp5WTxxt6XUadEHVES9obwI83mSDC8kC2WP4oDu1WlW2DZfw4KvgfrBxJeFaQvXkf6g_2iaLt9WaVKx840dIMNPIXayU6dgry9i7d8OQM31m7CVSI3NiC7/s1600/Block+2+-+green.jpg" height="320" width="318" /></a></div>
<br />
I just hope my block is not too green. I probably should have put a bit more contrast in this but l love it and I think it will go nicely with the lilac block from last month. I can't wait to get my partner's block to see how they all play together.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

After a leave of absence (illness and family commitments) I am back in the string of things.<br />
<br />
I literally mean stings because that is predominately what I have been working with for the last 4 weeks.<br />
It's no secret that l love scrappy quilts. I love the informality and 'homely' feel of them and scrappy works with my current goal of using what I have in my stash to create something with a modern aesthetic.<br />
<br />
So here is my latest creation....to be named either Square Dance or Hip to be Square.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSR02Xb7S7HEKmOTwJUUVSin4u3hxAbH3OHjywu3-xQrVLhvO8tq99hQLSFhb4A-P4pcvJN18TNJ7LyJhgkbDyGy8cR9uk_zhfVHugFpdDu-LKDLo7liqO7mGYMDr0hQU0cryICQfyJqwp/s1600/quilt+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSR02Xb7S7HEKmOTwJUUVSin4u3hxAbH3OHjywu3-xQrVLhvO8tq99hQLSFhb4A-P4pcvJN18TNJ7LyJhgkbDyGy8cR9uk_zhfVHugFpdDu-LKDLo7liqO7mGYMDr0hQU0cryICQfyJqwp/s1600/quilt+1.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the second quilt I have made from my favourite quilty book "Sunday Morning Quilts" by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison. It measures 72 x 72 and this quilt is for me. Winter is here in my part of the world and I can't wait to curl up on the couch with this bright and fresh quilt. Because it is a busy top I quilted it with a simple loopy loop design which gives the quilt a lovely texture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb2LcM3asxWyqJLZLYGhOdRIuIWQXdL3ErRIrlkjkTB9VeVpgSUD_VrGILzrCykbcqaUQvpjKLvEOGr9-LejJrN7YTuOsh5WvLOuXD8NYtChH5J6Pb0YLyVwd_1JY39QYkhHCU9fAjjHO8/s1600/quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb2LcM3asxWyqJLZLYGhOdRIuIWQXdL3ErRIrlkjkTB9VeVpgSUD_VrGILzrCykbcqaUQvpjKLvEOGr9-LejJrN7YTuOsh5WvLOuXD8NYtChH5J6Pb0YLyVwd_1JY39QYkhHCU9fAjjHO8/s1600/quilting.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And for the back I used a pretty coloured fabric I found on sale at my local Spotlight store. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPMAcU5waSSO_aKGbIqXHZOKSodX1GzYN1Hxz_hFGZqmRsONhqiAkgLFytFRdcBqnbJsTzEogcVFJSV27oq2-25dM9Hv3IPi55zXTGhHKhsDuFOKkFfMHIMAtLJp-gKJcy9E_tydJ7DfaY/s1600/back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPMAcU5waSSO_aKGbIqXHZOKSodX1GzYN1Hxz_hFGZqmRsONhqiAkgLFytFRdcBqnbJsTzEogcVFJSV27oq2-25dM9Hv3IPi55zXTGhHKhsDuFOKkFfMHIMAtLJp-gKJcy9E_tydJ7DfaY/s1600/back.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The store was very crowded with sale shoppers and someone was hovering around this bolt of fabric so I quickly swooped in and stole it before anyone else had a chance to fall in love with it. Good thing I did because as I waited in line to be served (which took like FOREVER) a couple of people commented on the fabric and wanted it after me. I played nice and left some for them!<br />
<br />
In other news....I have joined yet another online block swap. The Supernova Friendship Block Swap is being hosted by Stephanie at <a href="http://latenightquilter.com/2014/04/29/announcing-the-supernova-friendship-block-swap/" target="_blank">Late Night Quilter</a> and Sandra at <a href="http://onemillionstitches.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">One Million Stitches</a>.<br />
Each month we make 2 identical blocks, send one to our partner and keep the other. At the end of the swap the idea is to not only have a new quilt but a new friend as well.<br />
<br />
I am partnered with someone from Oklahoma and we have so much in common, not just quilty stuff but real life stuff too. She is a great pen pal and I am enjoying getting to know her a little bit more with each bit of correspondence.<br />
My partner and I decided to use a navy background for our blocks and each month we are picking a different inspiration colour. For the first round we chose lilac as our colourway.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlTtaxCp-uPte2qB9b0xWwvEqp_Jmo4U9OxEHx4wksu_aoF_lcu3qISDUYbu_dl5Ek_t1BxNyueh016xsXCNMf7U_Xi4-QBDlKXeBzSnF2Jm6_HhTWdFgwssZWgdgJf_bEGHkutkq_qYvI/s1600/Round+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlTtaxCp-uPte2qB9b0xWwvEqp_Jmo4U9OxEHx4wksu_aoF_lcu3qISDUYbu_dl5Ek_t1BxNyueh016xsXCNMf7U_Xi4-QBDlKXeBzSnF2Jm6_HhTWdFgwssZWgdgJf_bEGHkutkq_qYvI/s1600/Round+1.jpg" height="172" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Aren't they just beautiful? They look like they are shimmering to me. I can't wait for Round 2.<br />
For some more eye candy make sure you head over to the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/2665289@N23/" target="_blank">Supernova Friendship Swap Flickr group</a> to see some of the awesome colour combinations others are using for their blocks.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />

Do you ever find yourself in a bit of a funk?<br />
<br />
This past month I have been potting in my sewing room, playing with fabric, flicking through the hundreds of projects on my 'wish list' but I am not at all inspired. I want to start a new project but I can't get myself into the right head space. I think the reason is that my style is evolving and my modest stash just does not inspire me.<br />
<br />
When I first started my quilting adventure 14 years ago I was very drawn to the country and naive style. Then my taste evolved into a more classic style but now I find myself leaning towards more of a modern style of quilting. I hate putting labels on the different styles. I think they all merge and I flow from one to the other with startling frequency! But right here, right now I love the clean lines and 'minimalist' feel that often describes modern. Although I have started to acquire modern fabrics, my stash is top heavy with more classic styles which poses a bit of dilemma for me.<br />
<br />
So l have set myself the challenge of trying to use my existing stash to make quilts with a modern vibe.<br />
<br />
With that in mind I have made a wall hanging for my entry hall using improv piecing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjprmI3SzABMrS5byBl3o0-KQDn-sxqPZL_rcBXh18naMdgZndGIH2tgBmZ3heviE_XFsrCSWx6RJxMZrxSrleW7Yi4ltJCKp0S2h1f5UMaoi9iwRcEgLDeN9bSBHAHKPFnJRXdIw-D3qYf/s1600/ON+Wall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjprmI3SzABMrS5byBl3o0-KQDn-sxqPZL_rcBXh18naMdgZndGIH2tgBmZ3heviE_XFsrCSWx6RJxMZrxSrleW7Yi4ltJCKp0S2h1f5UMaoi9iwRcEgLDeN9bSBHAHKPFnJRXdIw-D3qYf/s1600/ON+Wall.jpg" height="222" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">(excuse the picture - I took it indoors at about 9pm with terrible lighting!)</span></div>
<br />
<br />
I also used a few scraps of "modernish" fabrics to make some colour coordinated fabric baskets.<br />

These were surprisingly quick to put together and I plan to make several more so that eventually I have one in each colour to store my scraps in.<br />
<br />
Other recent finishes include some paper pieced star blocks for a bee group and a quilt top for one of the many charity groups I am involved with.<br />

Now to get back to the 'wish list' and settle on what I want to start next. Or maybe before I do that I should think about tackling the ever increasing UFO pile? <br />

Until next time.<br />

The absolute hardest part of any project for me is naming a quilt that I have made.<br />
<br />
I love picking the colours for a new project, I love making the blocks, I like (not love) putting the blocks together to make the top, I love the quilting and I love, love, love binding my quilts but its there that the love affair stops.<br />
<br />
Some people come up with the most inventive and unique names but when it comes time for me to name a quilt I draw a complete blank. Every single time.<br />
<br />
I want to think of something fun and appropriate but I never can. I really hate this part of the process and I confess to having made and gifted many quilts that were left unnamed simply because I couldn't come up with anything.<br />
<br />
Anyone else have this problem?<br />
<br />
For example, I have just completed a Japanese X & + quilt for my gorgeous 7 year old niece. <br />

<br />
<br />
It's been a week since this was bound and I still cannot come up with a name for it so it feels unfinished in my mind.<br />
<br />
Whats wrong with me? Why do I find it so hard to come up with anything?<br />
<br />
Help me please. Where does your inspiration come from when naming quilts? Is it the colours you use in the quilt, or the style of quilt or maybe its to do with the recipient? I try to draw on all of these elements but still I get nothing, nada, zilch!<br />
<br />
I don't want to settle for the usual "handmade with love blah, blah, blah" so any input or inspiration you can throw my way would be very gratefully received.<br />
<br />
Until next time.<br />
